Notice Regarding G-Portal System Renewal

Thank you for using the JAXA Earth Observation Satellite Data Provision System "G-Portal".
We are implementing a major system renewal to fundamentally enhance service quality and operational infrastructure. This renewal includes upgrading the system platform to achieve a more stable and user-friendly data provision system.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and cooperation as this is an important step to improve future usability.

What's New

Schedule

Users are requested to migrate from the current system to the new system with an updated platform. The migration schedule is as follows:
  • June 16th, 2026 : User information page opened
  • July 16th, 2026 : Further updates regarding the G-Portal system migration published
  • July-August 2026 : Further updates regarding the G-Portal system migration to be published (planned)
  • October 1, 2026 : New system release (planned)
  • End of October 2026 : Current system shutdown (planned)
*A parallel operation period of approximately one month is planned in October 2026.
*Users are requested to complete migration during this period.
*Further details will be announced on this page once finalized.

Key Changes

  • - System infrastructure renewal

  • - Improvements to the user interface

  • - Change of public domains for Web/SFTP/CSW services
    In the new system, the access URLs for the website, SFTP site, and CSW server will be changed. If you have bookmarked or otherwise configured access to the current URLs, please update your settings accordingly.
    The new access URLs will be announced separately at a later date.

  • - SFTP service will support only public key authentication (for enhanced security)
    Users who access G-Portal via the SFTP site should take note of the following changes:
    • ・Change of SFTP Port Number
      The port number used for SFTP access will be changed to 22.
    • ・Change of Authentication Method
      In the new system, authentication using a username and password for SFTP access will no longer be supported. Instead, all users will be required to use public key authentication.
      The G-Portal system will generate the public/private key pair, and users will be able to obtain their private key through a dedicated function provided on the new G-Portal website.
    • ・Changes Required for Automated Download Scripts
      As noted above, the SFTP site URL will be different from that of the current system.
      Therefore, users who automatically download products using their own scripts or applications will need to update their configuration settings accordingly.

  • - Bulk download function on Web service discontinued
    The current system provides a bulk download function that allows users to specify product type, observation period, and area of interest on the website and download all matched products at once. However, due to system limitations, it has not been possible to efficiently search for and download large numbers of products.
    As a result, this function will be discontinued. Instead, we plan to provide guidance on how to search for and download products using the CSW and SFTP server.
    Specifically:
    ✓ For users utilizing Linux environments, example command-line procedures will be provided.
    ✓ For users utilizing Windows environments, alternative methods based on Windows PowerShell and Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) will be provided.

  • - Most processing functions on Web service discontinued
    Of the product processing functions available in the current system (such as data subsetting and format conversion), only the GeoTIFF conversion function for GCOM-C products will remain available in the new system. For all other processing functions, users will need to utilize the tools published on the G-Portal website as alternatives, as described on this page.

  • - Enhancement of user account security
    For the purpose of preventing unauthorized access and protecting information, please reconfigure your user account on the new system.
    The new system is scheduled to be released on October 1st, 2026. If you wish to continue using G-Portal after the migration, you will be required to register a new user account after the new system becomes available.
    User account names may contain only the following characters:
    • ✓ Lowercase letters (a–z)
    • ✓ Uppercase letters (A–Z)
    • ✓ Numbers (0–9)
    • ✓ Underscore (_)
    • ✓ Hyphen (-)
    • ✓ At sign (@)
    • ✓ Period (.)

    Passwords must:
    • ✓ Be between 8 and 18 characters in length; and
    • ✓ Contain a combination of at least three of the following character types:
    • ✓ Letters
    • ✓ Numbers
    • ✓ Symbols (underscore "_", hyphen "-", at sign "@", and period ".")

    Please also note that the new system will be governed by newly established Terms of Use. When registering for a user account, you will be required to review and agree to these terms.

Q.
Can I carry over my personal settings (such as account, public keys, search criteria, and my lists) from the existing system to the new system?
A.
For the purposes of preventing unauthorized access and ensuring information security, please reconfigure your settings in the new system.

Q.
Are the access points (URLs) for the new system’s WEB site and SFTP site the same as those of the existing system?
A.
No, they are different. Details will be provided at a later date.
Q.
Will there be any changes in how to use the website or the SFTP site?
A.
There are no major changes in how to use them.
However, some features will be discontinued or have changes in access methods.

Q.
During the parallel operation period, can the same data be obtained from both the existing and new systems?
A.
Yes, it can.
However, for reprocessed historical observational data associated with version upgrades, depending on the timing of access, it may be available only on the existing system.

Q.
Will any new data be released in the new system, or conversely, will any data no longer be available?
A.
The following datasets will not be available in the new system:
- Legacy format data: TRMM (HDF4 format) and Aqua/AMSR-E (HDF4 format)
- Legacy datasets: A portion of legacy data from various satellite products. A detailed list will be provided at a later date.
