  In the new system, the access URLs for the website, SFTP site, and CSW server will be changed. If you have bookmarked or otherwise configured access to the current URLs, please update your settings accordingly.
  The new access URLs will be announced separately at a later date.
  
  
• SFTP service will support only public key authentication (for enhanced security)
  Users who access G-Portal via the SFTP site should take note of the following changes:
  

  • Change of SFTP Port Number
    The port number used for SFTP access will be changed to 22.
  • Change of Authentication Method
    In the new system, authentication using a username and password for SFTP access will no longer be supported. Instead, all users will be required to use public key authentication.
    The G-Portal system will generate the public/private key pair, and users will be able to obtain their private key through a dedicated function provided on the new G-Portal website.
  • Changes Required for Automated Download Scripts
    As noted above, the SFTP site URL will be different from that of the current system.
    Therefore, users who automatically download products using their own scripts or applications will need to update their configuration settings accordingly.

  
  
• Bulk download function on Web service discontinued
  The current system provides a bulk download function that allows users to specify product type, observation period, and area of interest on a website and download all matched products at once. However, due to system limitations, the function has not been able to efficiently handle searches and downloads involving large numbers of products. Therefore, this function will be discontinued. As an alternative, we will provide documentation and sample shell scripts demonstrating how to search for and download products using the CSW server and SFTP server. These materials are available below. Windows users can search the G-Portal catalog and download products by using the provided shell scripts after setting up the environment described in the documentation, including Windows PowerShell and Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). Linux users can perform the same operations by running the shell scripts in their own Linux environments. Please note that the domain names of the CSW server and SFTP server will be announced in conjunction with the release of the new system on October 1. User registration for the new system will also begin on October 1.

• Most processing functions on Web service discontinued
  Of the product processing functions available in the current system (such as data subsetting and format conversion), only the GeoTIFF conversion function for GCOM-C products will remain available in the new system. For all other processing functions, users will need to utilize the tools published on the G-Portal website as alternatives, as described on this page.
  
  
• Enhancement of user account security
  For the purpose of preventing unauthorized access and protecting information, please reconfigure your user account on the new system.
  The new system is scheduled to be released on October 1st, 2026. If you wish to continue using G-Portal after the migration, you will be required to register a new user account after the new system becomes available.
  User account names may contain only the following characters:
  

  ✓ Lowercase letters (a–z)

  ✓ Uppercase letters (A–Z)

  ✓ Numbers (0–9)

  ✓ Underscore (_)

  ✓ Hyphen (-)

  ✓ At sign (@)

  ✓ Period (.)

  
  Passwords must:
  

  ✓ Be between 8 and 18 characters in length; and

  ✓ Contain a combination of at least three of the following character types:

  ✓ Letters

  ✓ Numbers

  ✓ Symbols (underscore "_", hyphen "-", at sign "@", and period ".")

  
  Please also note that the new system will be governed by newly established Terms of Use. When registering for a user account, you will be required to review and agree to these terms.
  
  
• Changes to the GCOM-C Product Download Procedure
  Under the new system, the procedure for downloading GCOM-C products varies depending on the time difference between the download date and the observation start date of the requested data. However, the products listed under "Exceptions" below are not subject to these restrictions.
  

  (1) If the observation start date is within 2.5 years of the download date

  Products can be downloaded from either the website or the SFTP site. Please note that the website does not support batch downloading of multiple files.
  

  (2) If the observation start date is more than 2.5 years before the download date

  Users are required to submit a download request for each file through the website. Once the requested data has been prepared, a notification will be sent to the user indicating the location of the data on the SFTP site.
  (Data cannot be downloaded from the SFTP site without completing this request procedure.)

  1. Products that can be downloaded directly from both the website and the SFTP site regardless of the download date or observation date

  These products can be downloaded from either the website or the SFTP site.
  

  ・Products whose observation start date is more than one month before the download date
  

  The same procedure as described in "(2) If the observation start date is more than 2.5 years before the download date" is required.
  

  ✓ Level-2(Cryosphere) Okhotsk sea-ice distriction Product (OKID)

  Only products whose observation start date is within 31 days of the download date can be downloaded from either the website or the SFTP site. Products more than 31 days after the observation start date are no longer available from either site. As an alternative, users may use the Snow Cover and Sea Ice Distribution Product (SICE).
